This morning’s Opening Session/Keynote Address at 9 a.m. CT is Saturday’s don’t-miss event:

  • 2020 ASA President Mary Dale Peterson, MD, MHA, FACHE, FASA, opens the session with a recap of what will surely be remembered as one of the most challenging years in the specialty’s history. But there were just as many positives – 2020 was the best Match year ever for anesthesiology. Don’t miss Dr. Peterson’s inspirational message for the future.
  • Then, you will hear from two of the nation’s most influential scientists. NIH Director Francis Collins, MD, PhD, will speak on “Exceptional Opportunities in Biomedical Research.” Dr. Collins needs no introduction – he has led the world’s largest biomedical research agency for more than a decade and is the former head of the NIH’s genome institute.

  • Matthew B. Weinger, MD, MS, will deliver this year’s ASA/APSF Ellison C. Pierce Jr., MD, Patient Safety Memorial Lecture, titled ‘Is Safety Becoming the Poor Stepchild of Quality?’ Dr. Weinger will address how production-oriented systems can become threats to patient safety.
