The collection and reporting of practice data as required by MACRA has raised questions and concerns among physicians who need to update their reporting processes for reimbursement. A Sunday seminar is geared to answer the questions of anesthesiologists and help them learn to meet the new requirements.

The four-hour hands-on workshop will feature ASA and Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI) staff members who will cover a range of reporting topics and answer questions after each presentation. The topics target how practices can implement data capture procedures and reporting locally to meet Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) reporting requirements this year and in the future.

Speakers will explain how a practice chooses quality measures and improvement activities to report, and the regulations a practice should consider when submitting data. They also will detail what a quality measure is, how yearly measure maintenance affects reporting and the expectations for measures moving forward. AQI staff members will meet with participants individually or in small groups to answer questions, said session moderator Matt Popovich, Ph.D., ASA Director of Quality and Regulatory Affairs

The second half of the session will build on those topics to explore how practices can send their data to AQI. Participants will learn how to view their practices’ reports and how AQI submits data to CMS, said Popovich.

“This session is a reflection of questions and comments we have received from practices of all sizes about the requirements for Medicare quality reporting programs,” he said. “It will cover the nuts and bolts about how to collect and submit data to the Anesthesia Quality Institute.

“We are interested in hearing what practices are experiencing and what their challenges are. We can then work with them to understand and implement processes that may improve their data capture and reporting.”
